The Color Coral

flamigos
Sherwin Williams color of the year is Coral Reef (SW 6606). The color coral is made of red with yellow undertones. Coral is warm and comforting in shades with less saturation and more energetic with more saturation such as Coral Reef. It is considered a romantic and feminine color.

Why are flamingos coral colored? Because during their lifetime they consume shrimp and mollusks containing carotene full of reddish/orange pigments and algae with beta carotene pigments. When these foods are broken down by their livers the pigments are deposited in their feathers. The result coral colored feathers.
