Founders

Florence Jones

Florence Jones is an artist. One day she realized she was looking at the world around her as colors, not shapes.

In 1982 she completed her BA in Fine Arts at West Virginia Wesleyan and began her career as a graphic designer. She spent two years working as an apprentice in a small ad agency before moving to larger agencies in New York City and Washington, DC, working her way up from Production Artist to Director of Graphic Services.  In the 90's Florence transitioned into publishing and as a horse-lover started her dream job of producing and designing layouts for Equus & Polo Magazines. During this time computers were starting to be utilized for design, and Florence was one of the first to transition from the traditional layout format of graphic design to a computer-generated one. She was one of the first designers of a graphic website while working at the American Advertising Federation.

When she decided to be a stay-at-home mother, Florence continued her career as a freelance graphic designer, building websites and developing brand identities for start-up companies. During a period of self-evaluation, Florence decided to return to color and try a new career centered based on her 30 years experience using color theory and color psychology.  She started Arlington Color Consultants in 2007 with her friend and neighbor Susan Mintz.  Over the next six years she refined the delivery system of services and business support and in 2013 prepared the materials for franchising her color consulting business. The nation’s first in-home color consulting franchise, America’s Color Consultants, launched in 2015.

Susan Mintz

Susan Brackna Mintz is a co-founder of Arlington Color Consultants and America’s Color Consultants,  and is owner/operator of Malibu Color Consultants.

Prior to entering the colorful world of home design in 2007, she was a partner in Specs Event Production in Washington, DC for over 20 years.  Specs was a highly regarded, full-service public relations and event company that worked primarily with small businesses, non-profit organizations and trade associations.  They managed advertising accounts and garnered media coverage for their clients, as well as organizing special events.  Their clients ranged from the DC Board of Trade to Cellar Door Productions,  and the Multiple Sclerosis Society to Anheuser-Busch.  Her favorite event?  The HFS-tival, an annual multi-day “alternative” rock festival sponsored by client WHFS radio and attended by over 60,000 fans.  “Great music, great fun and excellent people watching!”

When Specs closed in 2007, Susan decided to pursue her artistic side and utilize her faux painting training and home redesign experience and skills. She and neighbor and friend Florence Jones had complementary home improvement interests and joined forces to create Arlington Color Consultants, which was successful from its first weekend in business. She assisted Ms. Jones with the development of franchise materials for America’s Color Consultants.

When Susan and her family relocated to Malibu, California, she put up a shingle for Malibu Color Consultants.

Susan is a graduate and die-hard Maryland Terrapin.
